"Unintentional Consequences" of Gun Control Legislation:

From an LEO friend in Capetown:

"Two of our officers responded to a domestic violence call last week. At th= e=20 scene, they affected an arrest. As the suspect was being loaded into our=20 van, an onlooker dashed out of the crowd and opened fire with a Kalashnikov=20 rifle, hitting one officer in the head. As the officer dropped to the=20 ground, and accomplice of the shooter rushed forward and stole the downed=20 officer's duty weapon (G17). Both the shooter and the accomplice disappeared= =20 into the crowd. No arrests have been made. Our officer was DOA. This is th= e=20 most recent of a series of similar episodes.

Antigun legislation here has severely restricted the number of guns a person= =20 can own. The government has openly stated that their ultimate goal is to=20 eliminate the private ownership of guns altogether, so we fully expect=20 additional restrictions to follow. =20

The monetary exchange rate here makes anything imported from a foreign=20 country with a strong currency (USA, Germany) prohibitively expensive. To=20 make matters worse, our domestic gun industry is all but dead. Thus, rich=20 people own Glocks. Everyone else owns cheap junk imported from Eastern=20 Europe and South America. In fact, Glocks in particular have become=20 extremely valuable since the latest round of legislation went into effect.

An =E2=80=98unintended consequence' is that our police, as we see above, are= now=20 being hunted down and murdered solely in an effort to acquire their Glock=20 pistols. The murders steal nothing else. They don't even take the officers= '=20 wallets. To address this troubling issue, it is now being suggested by=20 politicians that police Glocks be replaced with cheaper pistols!"

This is what happens when preposterous gun restrictions have the effect of=20 making guns far more valuable than they were when they were more easily=20 obtained. It is a lesson we all need to take to heart. It is happening in=20 South Africa right now, and my friends there are having to deal with it. =20 American police should note this well when they are told the only they shoul= d=20 have guns.
